Great film! You are a talented storyteller. I really like how you used the story of the fish at the beginning and end of you film to tie things together. Also really liked the use of your name as a way to show your personal transitions. Wonderful job!!!
Thank you for such an uplifting and inspirational story! I am beyond amazed at your revelation so early on in life. That's a wonderful achievement and this film truly shows how proud you are of it. Bravo!
Have you kept this story close to your heart and only just now were able to share it or have you always shared it with others? Did your friends or family know about this growth you were feeling when you were actually experiencing it at the time?
I'm a photographer professor and I have a couple of questions: What would you do differently with your film? What did you learn from doing this project (not technical)? What is your next and up coming project?
Amauta, what a wonderful lifechanging story! But what is it with small ponds anyway, though? I cannot remember how many times I played by small ponds when I was a little boy! However, my lifechanging lesson came not directly by the pond but in the form of a Swahili children's story book we read in my third grade classroom many many many many years ago.
A group of boys were playing by the pond. They begun by throwing rocks in the pond for they were fascination by the ripples they created on its surface. The game then turned into, 'who would create the biggest ripple?'. The rocks became bigger and bigger due to their effort to outdo one another. Suddenly one brave frog jumped out of the pond and shouted at the boys as loud as he could, "DON'T YOU KNOW THAT YOUR SILLY LITTLE GAME MEANS SUFFERING AND DEATH TO OUR FAMILIES LIVING IN THE POND?" The boys were so terrified (perhaps not by the frog's shear size but by the fact that it could talk!) that they ran away as fast and as far as their little legs could carry them. Come to think of it, dropping bombs and missiles at heavily populated civilian targets in modern warface has now become a game of Nintendo!
Peace, Omondi.
Amauta!
What can I say? Except... in between being such a sensitive young man and promising artist, can you please remember to take out the garbage?
You know who...
PS: The Mother's work is never done!

Amauta....the aphorism needs to be updated (or remembered, your ancestors would probably say). "Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day/teach him how to fish and you'll have fed him for a lifetime" must become "teach a man that he is the fish...and you will feed him for all eternity." I can't tell you how much I needed your message today. I am full.
Great Story Amauta!! I met your Mom at Yogaville and she was gushing about you, I can now see why. Welcome to the path of seekers. Keep seeking and seeing it is all you and you are me!!~Sam
Excellent work, Amauta ... you show me that your generation has already gone beyond! May you continue to be showered by the inspiration of self-knowledge. ... Anne
Hi Amauta,
Great Story!!!The metaphor of the Fish struggling for air and we all struggling to find our identity was touching. Your skill of saying a lot with few words is a true characteristic of a great storyteller. Thank you for sharing your story in such a brilliant and wise way.
Janice
Hola Amauta!
No estoy exagerando. Tienes grandes tesoros en ti.
Tienes algun dia que contarnos cual es tu secreto para mantenerte humilde con tantos tesoros.
Felicitaciones y gracias por la gran ensenanza.

If only all life's lessons could come from silly little stories like mine! But I guess it's the hard-part of lesson learning that makes it worthwhile in the end.
Amauta, mi Padrino! What a powerful story and what a wonderful storyteller you are! In the short time I have known you and your incredible mother, I have grown to appreciate you both profoundly. I absolutely loved your embrace of the many facet of masculinidade as we would say in Brasil (one of my most favorite places on earth!). You are indeed a warrior who knows that the greatest struggle is within; a poet who sees beauty even in pain and; a sentient spirit being who is learning and growing from lifetime-to-lifetime. Know that I love you as I would the son whom I never had and also as the man whom I hope you will become and enjoy an even greater friendship with me. I have learned so much from the wonderful fable. At various times in my life, I have been that little fish, giving from the depths of my being that another might have insight and grasp a new life. This is a brilliant piece and it shines like the illuminating light of your soul!
Profound and heartfelt words brother. Reading your comment was like sipping Black tea with lemon and just enough sugar to make it a tad sweet without aching your gums. Warm enough to soothe a sore throat, and with enough kick to kick a headache.
Where some may taste bitter Insani-tea, I savor sweet Honest-tea.
Hi Amauta - I enjoyed your film. Any chance of subtitles to help people whose English isn't ready for regular speed speech. Are you vegetarian now? --george
I was vegetarian for a long time, but after going to Guatemala, where I was offered meat by poor families, I could not decline. Sometimes, and some places in the world, being vegetarian is a privilege. Subtitles would be definitely be easy to do, Buena Idea!
Wow! thank you for sharing your story of the little fish. I appreciate your willingness to show your humble and powerful vulnerability to the rest of us through your story. Its a world of medicine for those who struggle to fit in. Your story reminds us of the importance breathing and just being. Brilliant! Un abrazo!
Amauta, thank you for this reminder about compassion as a leader. It seems to me that you are not seeing things as more magical than they really are but rather that you are no longer dialing down the magic you truly see in order to satisfy some miserable pull to a miserable existence. Thanks for that. I feel like I breathed in anew after watching this.
Wow...that's deep. Thanks Ann. Long time no see, by the way! We should have a reunion soon! I'm almost done with high school and then I won't know what will become of me, so catch me before then!

Hi Amauta:
I really enjoyed watching your film -- thanks so much!
I thought your 'name' was a great organizing principle that helps people connect (everyone's got one, no?).
Definitely great visual presence and choices in this film, so wondering who you look to for visual inspiration: directors, film makers, artists?
thanks,
Jenny

Your constant Yoga pants tire me...
But your Constant love and smiles and affection give me strength and quench my thirst in the desert of the city.

one question:
Was she gushing before or after she fell off the small building?

Thanks Janice! Sometimes, I just can't get enough minimalism! Less words, leaves more to the imagination!
